• (Sittin' On) The Dock of The Bay는 Otis Redding과 Steve Cropper에 의하여 쓰였습니다.
• 1967년에 창작되어 1968년 Otis Redding의 컴필레이션 앨범인 The Dock of The Bay에 수록되었습니다.
• 1967년 두 번 녹음했는데 그 중 하나는 1967년 12월 10일 그가 비행기 추락사고로 사망하기 사흘 전이었습니다.
• Otis Redding의 사후 발표된 곡이며 미국에서 최초로 사후 1위를 차지한 최초의  곡입니다.
• BMI는 이 곡이 약 600만 번 연주되어 20세기에서 여섯번쨰로 가장 많이 연주된 노래로 선정했습니다.
• Rolling Stone 선정 '역대 최고의 노래 500곡'에서 26위에 올랐는데 목록에 수록된 Otis Redding의 노래 중 두 번째로 높은 순위에 오른 곡입니다.
